Menorrhagia is a menstrual period with abnormally intense flow and falls under the larger category of abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB). Also known as heavy menstrual periods, it is generally described as heavy and prolonged menstrual bleeding which disrupts the normal activities of a woman.
Very heavy periods at menarche and menopause might spontaneously settle. When the degree of bleeding is mild, a woman can be assured of not having any abnormal cause. In case of anaemia being caused during bleeding, iron tablets can be administered for restoring the normal level of haemoglobin.
However, for availing the best results, it is essential to consult a doctor.
