Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/ AIDS) can be defined as a gamut of conditions that results from the the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. At the initial stage of the infection, the victim might suffer from conditions similar to influenza for a short span of time. Then comes a period when the victim cannot notice any symptom. With progression, the infection gradually shakes the immune system thus increasing the risk for further infections such as tuberculosis and tumours which are not found in people having a sound immune system. These symptoms found at the later stage of the infection are referred to as AIDS which is often associated with loss of body weight.
Everyone with HIV infection, regardless of CD4 count, should be offered HIV treatment. Always use condoms during intercourse.
